Just as users must provide a valid ID and password to access company workstations, a VoIP user must log into their SIP phone to make / receive phone calls or access their voicemail on your VoIP network.
Employees are capable of accessing their telephone via any internet connection; either working remotely or on-premise.
With traditional phone systems, each office or terminal move would require the PBX system to be reconfigured and possibly rewire the phone closet for phone connectivity. With VoIP systems, since each SIP device registers using MAC addresses when it first connects to the communications server, the user simply takes their SIP phone to a new terminal and plugs into the network; the changeover is automatic.
