Under heavy objections from incumbent carrier, the executive policy committee of Winnipeg rejected Manitoba Telecom Services's (MTS) bid to renew their $6 million contract; instead opting to migrate over 4,000 of the city's land lines into business VoIP services.
MTS argued that a migration on such a large scale would be extremely difficult and cause undue hardship to the city and it's ability to render services but the executive policy committee dismissed those concerns and awarded the contract for the city's telecom services to cloud based VoIP provider FlexITy.
Municipalities and government agencies are the latest trend of organizations exploring more cost effective alternatives to traditional land lines; which are becoming more and more antiquated and lack many of the newer features and functions of business-class VoIP service.
