Telecom companies who vigorously fought rollout of VoIP technology in the 1990's have been seriously benefiting from VoIP in their own network operations.

The benefits of VoIP have long been established with cost savings offering the most incentive for VoIP. Any business or company using VoIP will see recognize immediate return on investments with their cost savings, including the carriers themselves.

Research firm Telegeography reports that total global voice traffic grew by five percent in 2012 - with traditional TDM-based voice growth rate slowing to less than three percent and making up 66% of total minutes, and VoIP, growing at a rate of more than 25%, making up the balance.
