Cisco Enhances Enterprise Collaboration Tools

Cisco continues to enhance their collaboration tools to improve communication security, IT management and 3rd party participants.

The new tool sets will be announced October 23 at the Cisco's annual Collaboration Summit being held in Boca Raton, FL. The move signals a renewed push from Cisco in the collaboration tools market, where it competes with the typical cast of rivals such as Avaya, Citrix, Microsoft and IBM.

This is a long needed update to Cisco's collaboration tools which were referred to as "old and broken" by Rowan Trollope, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco's Collaboration Technology Group.

The evolution of VoIP business solutions has helped companies of all sized more easily manage their business-class services without significant impacts to the company bottom-line.

Cisco plans to introduce the following at their annual collaboration summit:

  • Cisco Expressway - utilizes Transport Layer Security and works with existing Cisco products such as Jabber and TelePresence. Expressway will be available December 2013.
  • Jabber Guest - integrates directly into Expressway enabling companies to provide a secure and controlled access to enterprise collaboration systems for external parties including partners, contractors and their customers.
  • Intelligent Proximity - is a new product engineered to let employees link mobile phones with desk IP phones so they can toggle calls in progress, export contacts lists and call histories from mobile phones.
  • Prime Collaboration - will be upgraded with a central management console to control most of Cisco's collaboration products; including servers, client software and desk phones, to monitor system health and provision user devices. It will be available November 2013.
